How to crochet the Double Diamond Mesh stitch

Directions written using US terminology

Beg: Beginning

Ch (s): Chain (s)

Ea: Each

Hdc: Half double crochet

Rem: Remain

Rep: Repeat

RS: Right side

Sc: Single crochet

Sk: Skip

Sk ( ): Skip the stitches that are indicated in the ( )

WS: Wrong side

* – this is the symbol used to indicate the start of the section of stitches to be repeated

• If the lace seems tight, try going up a hook size or two
• Blocking is recommended to allow the lace to open up
• Stitch is worked in increments of 6

For the sample shown on the webpage, I used Scheepjes “Spirit” yarn, which is a fingering weight yarn, with a G / 4 mm hook. Chain in multiples of 6

Row 1 (RS): Ch 4, 1 sc in 6th ch from hook, *1 sc in ea of next 2 chs, ch 5, sk 3 chs, 1 sc; rep * across until 4 chs rem, 1 sc in ea of next 2 chs, ch 2, 1 hdc in last ch, turn

Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, 1 sc in top of hdc, ch 3, sk (2 chs and 1 sc), 1 sc in second sc, *ch 3, sk (1 sc and 2 chs), 1 sc in third ch of ch-5, ch 3, sk (2 chs and 1 sc), 1 sc in second sc; rep * until 1 sc and beg ch-5 rem, ch 3, 1 sc in third ch of beg ch-5, turn

Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next ch, ch 5, *sk (2 ch, sc, 2 ch), 1 sc in next ch, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next ch, ch 5; rep * across until 1 ch and 1 sc rem, work 1 sc in last ch before sc, 1 sc in last sc, turn

Row 4: Ch 1, 1 sc in first sc, *ch 3, sk (1 sc and 2 chs), 1 sc in third ch of ch-5, ch 3, sk (2 ch and 1 sc), 1 sc in middle of 3 sc; rep * across ending with sc in final sc (instead of middle of 3 sc), turn

Row 5: Ch 4, sk 2 chs on previous row, 1 sc in next ch, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next ch, *ch 5, sk (2 ch, 1 sc, 2 ch), 1 sc in next ch, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next ch; rep * across until only 2 chs and final sc rem, ch 2, sk 2 chs, 1 hdc in final sc, turn

Row 6: Ch 1, 1 sc in top of hdc, ch 3, sk (2 ch and 1 sc), 1 sc in next sc, *ch 3, sk (1 sc and 2 ch), 1 sc in third ch of ch-5, ch 3, sk (2 ch and 1 sc), 1 sc in next sc; rep * until 1 sc and beg ch-4 rem, ch 3, sk (1 sc, 2 ch), 1 sc in second ch of beg ch-4, turn
